I am an opinion columnist, a PhD Candidate in Georgetown University’s Government Department, an author with the Center for American Progress, and a freelance journalist. My work has also been published in the Washington Post, Dissent, CommonwealThe League of Ordinary Gentlemen, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, the Kalamazoo Gazette, PBS MediaShift, the Bowdoin Orient, and at www.frontporchrepublic.com. I’ve also done some occasional sportswriting at The Run of Play, The Causal Sports Fan, and the Washington Post.

I hold a B.A. in Government (High Honors) and Spanish from Bowdoin College, a M.S. in Teaching from Pace University, and an M.A. in Government from Georgetown University. I taught first grade for two years in Crown Heights, Brooklyn as a Teach For America Corps Member.

Also: I am prouder than anyone else in the world to have grown up in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
